CommUnity Day Events Column

CommUnity Day was an event held by various organizations from the College of Communication and Information Sciences in Reese Phifer Hall on Sept. 8, 2016. Creative Campus was among the organizations represented at this event. This organization encourages students in being passionate about the art they create and the relationships and opportunities that are possible; it welcomes all students, not only those who consider themselves traditional artists. The nearest upcoming event is the Art Swap. It will be held on Sept. 22, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Maxwell Hall on as a part of “Nights at Maxwell.” “This event is just about sharing and comparing your work with other students in a good, constructive way. You can bring anything from a drawing to a short story you’ve written,” said Alex Green, a senior art major. Green is involved with Creative Campus.

Green also included details about other things Creative Campus aims to accomplish with students involved heavily in art as well as those not so heavily involved. “We really try to work on skills that can help you with any major you might be in. Professionalism tends to be pretty universal, especially the collaboration we try to exercise among students. Being at CommUnity Day is about reaching out to students that could be already involved in art, like photojournalism majors. But art is for everyone,” Green said.

To promote Art Swap, volunteers handed out informational flyers along with a box of crayons, a coloring book, and a phone wallet with the Creative Campus logo featured on the surface. “The coloring book actually features artwork from students here. It’s really cool for some of us to see our work distributed this way. The crayon pack is just an extra way of saying, ‘We appreciate you. Come check us out.’ The phone wallet is just sort of like, ‘Don’t lose your stuff on the way to the Art Swap.’” Green said.
